New Classes

Evening Everyone

Late last week (Thursday/Friday) I started my General Education courses at Platt College. On Mon/Wed/Fri I take Multimedia Writing and Mass Communications, both being taught by teachers new to me. On my two “off” days, I take a course called Fundamentals of Illustration with a teacher that I’ve had once before. My first two classes are two hours long, each, with the latter dominating at a whole three hours.

So, this post is half update and half assignment. Multimedia Writing assignment one - write a blog post. So, here I am. I haven’t made an update since I did the Photoshop tutorial (which has earned me 6,000+ hits, by the way) so now is as good of a time as any. I need to start writing more, anyway. Every time I think about updating my blog, I am at work. Problem is, half the time I can’t access my blog from work. Said problem compounds because by the time I get home, I have totally forgotten what I wanted to write about earlier in the day.

I’m also hoping the best for my illustration class. I love to draw but I haven’t been doing it enough and hopefully this will reignite the flame under my ass. I usually end up doing it when I’m upset about something. Drawing lets me get into whatever character I’m drawing and I try to forget about all of my outside influences. It’s therapeutic almost.

On Matters at Work…

Things at work are going great. Last Friday I had my 90-day review (coincidentally on my 120th day.. figure that out) and it went very well. I wasn’t told that I was lacking in any area, just the opposite actually. My supervisor mentioned to me that I had been picking up on things (work flow, policies, etc.) pretty quickly and that she expected I become even more comfortable with them as time goes on. In the appraisal, employees are given points (1 to 9) in nine sections. My overall average was 6.56 which, again, I am told is good for having just begun.

Due to my performance, I’ve become the head Production Assistant on about 5 or 6 projects. That is pretty big for me. Ultimately I would like to be one of the head PA’s in the department and have a few people assigned to my own team.

Branching off from that, I am pretty happy for my friend Chris Cherry who just recently got hired at Einstein Industries due in part to yours truly. He is a really good guy and I’m glad that I was able to help provide an opportunity that will hopefully help shape the next parts of his life. Along with him, I also got Justin d’Artenay in the door and I got approached from another person at Platt today that was wondering if he’d be a good fit. I think he would be. Hopefully he decides to pursue it.

Platt is taking over Einstein!

Until next time.
